Senior Division

Mornings consist of practice time and lessons. Students eat meals in the university cafeteria. The afternoons are spent in chamber orchestra, master classes, quartet rehearsals or coaching. Schedule subject to change.

Commuter

Each student will receive a one-half hour lesson with a faculty member each week. Students receive invaluable instruction in the areas of mechanical technique, musical phrasing, and artistic styles. Another important aspect of these lessons is receiving crucial feedback as to their own practice effectiveness and how well they are implementing and executing the instruction they are being given.

Violin/ Viola

Anna Khalikova has performed extensively throughout the United States, France, China, and Uzbekistan. As a soloist, Anna has performed with the Michigan Camerata Orchestra, Albion Symphony Orchestra, The National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, The Chamber Orchestra Soloists of Uzbekistan, and The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan. Her impressive achievements include winning the first prize at the Glazunov competition in Paris, as well as the Golden Classical Music Awards, which led to her debut performance at Carnegie Hall.Anna has participated in many international summer festivals, such as the Aspen Music Festival, Summit Music Festival, Bowdoin Music Festival, Music in the Mountains, and Manhattan in the Mountains. Her passion for music and dedication to her craft have earned her worldwide recognition.

Cello

Germ谩n Marcano currently excels among the most important cellists in the Latin American music scene. His performances have received the best acclaims from musicians and the specialized critic, and his chamber music work with the Rios Reyna Quartet, has stand out as one of the most important in the continent. A student with Maestro Stefan Popov and of the renowned British pedagogue William Pleeth, Marcano obtained his Bachelor of Music Degree in year 1983, at the prestigious Surrey University, England, where he was prized for the year鈥檚 best graduation concert. In 1979, he received by unanimity of the jury, the 鈥淵ear鈥檚 Best Young Musician Award鈥� granted by the Reading Symphony Orchestra, England, subsequently being invited to perform as a soloist with them, in addition to performing in several concerts in some cities of the United Kingdom. In the following years, he has been regularly invited as a soloist with ensembles such as the Surrey University Symphony Orchestra, the Guildford Camerata and the Surrey Philharmonia. In year 1985, Marcano completed his cello鈥檚 superior studies at the Guildhall School of Music, in London, obtaining the 鈥淧remier Prix鈥�, being the first cellist ever awarded with such distinction at said institution. He has taken part in master courses with Maestros Franz Helmerson, Mstislav Rostropovich, Raquel Adonaylo, Lynn Harrel and Janos Starker. Back in Venezuela in year 1985, Marcano occupied the principal cello chair with the Sim贸n Bol铆var Symphonic Orchestra, doing numerous tours and records productions with them. Since then, he has been a regular invited soloist with Venezuela鈥檚 main orchestras, counting among these invitations playing at the first concert performance of the 鈥淕ran Mariscal de Ayacucho鈥� Symphonic Orchestra and the first performance in Venezuela of Elgar’s cello concerto. He has developed an important teaching work at the Sim贸n Bol铆var Conservatory, the Emil Friedman School, with the Sim贸n Bol铆var University Music Master Studies, and the Mozarteum Center鈥檚 Music School. As a founding member of the Rios Reyna Quartet, he engaged in several national and international tours, a recording of Latin American string quartets and two performances jointly with the legendary Amadeus Quartet playing Johannes Brahms鈥� String Sextets .
In 1997, he traveled to the United States to continue studies with Maestro Uri Vardi. During his stay in this country, Marcano won the audition for the Madison Symphony Orchestra鈥檚 principal cello position, in Wisconsin, in addition to carrying out various concerts in Madison and Milwaukee as a cellist and a conductor. In May of 2001, Marcano obtained the degree of 鈥淒octor in Music Arts鈥� granted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the United States. Currently, his activities are split between his teaching (Sim贸n Bol铆var Conservatory, Emil Friedman School, Sim贸n Bol铆var University Music Master studies, and Mozarteum Center鈥檚 Music School) and playing, performing as a soloist with Venezuela鈥檚 main orchestras, as a member to the Camerata Criolla Ensemble, and conductor of the Sim贸n Bol铆var University Chamber Orchestra鈥檚. In the last years, Marcano has combined his instrument鈥檚 traditional repertoire with Latin American compositions of the past and present times, thus promoting this high quality but very little broadcasted repertoire. He has first auditioned works from renowned Venezuelan composers such as Modesta Bor and Inocente Carre帽o, as well as fist auditions in Venezuela from different Latin American composers as Leo Brower, Alfredo Rugeles, Ju谩n Orrego S谩las, Alberto Ginastera and Calixto 脕lvarez. Recently, he performed for the first time with the Puerto Rican Symphony, the Concert for Cello and Orchestra of Puerto Rican composer Carlos V谩zques, piece composed specially for Marcano. His catalog of Latin American works for cello was published in year 2004 by the Vicente Emilio Sojo Foundation (Funves), with whom ha has recently published an edition of the Suite for cello and piano by Venezuelan composer Modesta Bor. Last September Mr. Marcano released his first CD with his sister Clara, which includes works by Schumann, Beethoven, Debussy and others. A second CD, devoted to folk Venezuelan music, is already in the making. He was recently invited as a professor and lecturer to Grand Valley State University and Andrews University in Michigan.

Violin

Evgeniya Antonyan is a violinist and international competition laureate. She holds a Master of Music degree from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and has performed extensively with various ensembles.
Now residing in the United States, Evgeniya regularly performs with the Palm Beach Symphony, Palm Beach Opera, and other local orchestras and ensembles.
In addition to her performing career, Evgeniya serves as an Artist-in-Residence Orchestra teacher in Palm Beach County schools, including Berkshire Elementary School and The King鈥檚 Academy. She also runs a private violin and viola studio, inspiring students to excel through her dynamic and individualized approach to music education.
Many of her students have won competitions, reflecting her lasting impact on the local musical community. She has successfully prepared numerous students for auditions at prestigious arts institutions in Palm Beach County, including Bak Middle School of the Arts and Dreyfoos School of the Arts.
In 2023, 2025, and 2026, Evgeniya was selected as a judge for the All-County Orchestra violin auditions.

Evgeniya remains deeply dedicated to sharing her passion for music through both performance and teaching.

Violin

Amari Guerere is a distinguished Venezuelan violinist and a 17-year veteran of the acclaimed Sim贸n Bol铆var Symphony Orchestra. A product of “El Sistema,” she has performed on major global stages and participated in commercial recordings and performances under the baton of Eduardo Mata, Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Dudamel, accompanying great solista as Rostropovich, Pavarotti, Domingo,Ruggiero Ricci, Henryk Szeryng, Monserrat Caballe, Renata Scotto, among others. With a dual background in Music Performance and Special Education, she has dedicated over 20 years to teaching internationally鈥攆rom Venezuela鈥檚 top schools to social projects in Brazil. Since moving to Florida, she has performed with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra and other local ensembles. Currently, she shares her expertise as a faculty member at the Palm Beach Suzuki School of Music and the Volta Music Foundation.

Daniel Mattos is a composer, pianist, conductor, and pedagogue recognized for his versatility across performance, composition, and music education. He graduated with honors from the Escuela Libre de M煤sica de San Juan, Puerto Rico and holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Florida State University, where he also pursued advanced doctoral studies in Music Theory. His academic interests include piano pedagogy, music education, instrumental conducting, and the science of education.

Professor Mattos has served as adjudicator, clinician, conductor, and instructor in the United States and internationally. His collaborations include the University of Puerto Rico, The International Bach Festival of Per煤 (city of Trujillo), Florida State University, Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches, Bak Middle School of the Arts, and the Nevada Music Teachers Association Silver State Competition.

An active and performed composer, Mattos has written works for choir, chamber ensembles, orchestra, and solo instruments. His compositions鈥攔anging from liturgical works and contemporary motets to tangos, chamber music, and jazz-influenced pieces鈥攈ave been performed throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and the United States. Select scores are published by J.W. Pepper Publishing.

In addition to his creative work, he is the author of pedagogical materials including Piano in Company, 笔颈补苍铆蝉迟颈肠辞 (a comparative study of piano biomechanics and sports performance), and Music Encounter, an early childhood music program.

A native of West Palm Beach, bassist and conductor Jeffrey Adkins has been a mainstay in the concert halls and musical classrooms of South Florida for fifteen years. Mr. Adkins has entered his sixth year as Orchestra Director at the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, where he proudly leads the Dreyfoos String Orchestra and the Dreyfoos Philharmonic. Both groups consistently earn the highest distinctions at local festivals and assessments. In January 2023 the Dreyfoos Philharmonic was featured at the FMEA President鈥檚 concert in Tampa, FL. In 2024, Mr. Adkins led students on a European tour in conjunction with the DSOA Piano Department, where they performed concerts in Salzburg and Vienna that featured American string repertoire and chamber music. This year, students from the DSOA Combined Chamber Music Program, which Mr. Adkins co-teaches, will embark on a tour of the United Kingdom, presenting concerts in Edinburgh and London.

A strong advocate for excellence in orchestral training at the state and local level, Mr Adkins currently serves on the Florida Orchestra Association Executive Board as District 14 Chair, as well as a member of the All-State Music Committee. He has also been the High School Orchestra Coordinator for the Palm Beach All-County Orchestra since 2022, bringing the region’s top collegiate conductors to work with our students. In the Fall of 2025, Mr. Adkins founded a youth orchestra outreach program, affectionately known as 鈥淵O Adkins!鈥�, for elementary string students. The program provides foundational orchestral training to the next generation and gives young players the opportunity to learn alongside DSOA String Students.

Mr. Adkins remains active in South Florida鈥檚 vibrant music scene. He is a core member of Palm Beach Symphony, Palm Beach Opera, and Nu Deco Ensemble, and regularly appears as a guest with Miami City Ballet and American Classical Orchestra. Mr. Adkins has also been fortunate to collaborate with a diverse list of artists, both in performance and recording, including Gloria Estafan, Wyclef Jean, Bad Bunny, Robert Glasper, and Bj枚rk.

A proud product of Palm Beach County Public Schools, Mr. Adkins began playing the double bass at Palm Beach Public Elementary. He continued at Bak Middle School of the Arts, and graduated from Dreyfoos School of the Arts. Mr. Adkins holds both Bachelor鈥檚 and Master鈥檚 degrees from the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University, where his primary bass teachers were Shigeru Ishikawa and Timothy Cobb. In April 2024 Mr. Adkins was awarded the Randolph A. Frank Prize for the Performing Arts, presented by Palm Beach Symphony.
